What’s a fun or unexpected fact about you that might surprise your patients or colleagues?

Most people are surprised to learn that outside of work, I’m pretty low-key and enjoy simple things like music, good food, and recharging with quiet time.

What’s a guilty pleasure song or movie that always puts you in a good mood?

A guilty pleasure movie for me is Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit—no matter how many times I’ve seen it, it brings out my inner youth. I’ll catch myself singing and dancing like I’m part of the movie.

If you could pick up any new skill instantly, what would it be?

If I could pick up any skill instantly, it would be mastering football or basketball. There’s something about the strategy, teamwork, and athleticism that I’ve always respected.

What’s your favorite hobby or creative outlet when you’re not practicing mental health care?

My favorite outlet is staying active and maintaining a healthy balance—whether that’s exercise, sports, or simply taking time to reset and recharge.

What’s a fun or unexpected fact about you that might surprise your patients or colleagues?

I was an Arabic Linguist in the Army once upon a time.  They sent me to school specifically to learn Arabic, and I used to be pretty fluent (but I’m not nearly as fluent as I used to be!)

What’s a guilty pleasure song or movie that always puts you in a good mood?

I don’t know about a “good mood”, but the theme song from Lost always hits me right in the feels… but not in a bad way!

If you could switch lives with someone for a day, who would it be and why?

Elon Musk.  During that one day I would transfer myself LOADS of money and use it to instantly solve so many of the world’s problems (hunger, homelessness, healthcare disparities, etc.). I would also hope to understand his thought processes, and apply any newfound “brilliance” (however much I could gain in a day) to things that are actually meaningful for all of humankind.

Some fun facts about Shobha:

What do you enjoy doing outside of work to recharge or stay grounded?

I enjoy practicing yoga and Pilates because it helps me slow down and reconnect with myself. The combination of movement, breath, and mindfulness helps release stress from the day and brings a sense of balance and calm. It keeps me grounded, clears my head, and leaves me feeling re-energized both mentally and physically.

Do you have a pet or a favorite animal that brings joy to your life?

Yes, we have two dogs named Argos and Zeus. They bring so much joy into my life and truly light up our home. Their personalities keep me laughing, entertained, and grounded every day—they’re a constant source of happiness and unconditional love.

If you could have any superpower to use in your practice, what would it be?
If I could have any superpower in my practice, it would be the ability to cure mental illness. Helping people find relief from suffering, regain peace of mind, and fully experience their lives would be incredibly meaningful and powerful.
